Deliver Lectures
Delivering Course Lectures
Would you like to deliver lectures asynchronously (i.e., creating a video that students can watch at any time), or synchronously (i.e., your students are “present” and engaged with your lecture in real-time)? If you deliver course lectures synchronously, you usually also have a Canvas course site with additional materials and other ways for students to engage.
Asynchronous Lecture Delivery - Pre-Record Your Lectures
Pre-recording lectures works well for any size class. It’s an excellent option for students who may be unable to attend a synchronous class session. Keep in mind that during a campus closure, students may be on entirely different schedules.
Canvas Studio is one avenue to capture and deliver recorded lectures in Canvas. Canvas Studio will allow you to Webcam capture or Screen Capture. For more information and instructions, see Canvas Studio Screen Capture basics.
Zoom can also easily be used to capture recorded lectures. Think about it like replicating a synchronous class using Zoom, but without participants. Zoom recordings can be uploaded to your Canvas course site.
Synchronous Lecture Delivery – Give Your Lecture Live Using Zoom
Zoom
Zoom provides a robust platform for online classes and meetings, pairing full audio and video conferencing capabilities with content sharing, desktop recording, and lecture capture. Features in Zoom allow you to replicate many classroom experiences including screen sharing and breakout rooms for group work. Zoom allows you to easily meet with your students at your usual day and time. You can record your Zoom meeting to post to your Canvas course site.
Create a Zoom account and get started. If you intend to teach class using Zoom, you’ll want to upgrade your account. Contact the Walker Center ([email protected]) for assistance upgrading your Zoom account.
Canvas Conferences (Big Blue Button)
Inside the Conferences tool in Canvas. Students have access to this feature in their Group Homepages to set up their own meetings. You can easily invite the whole class, or small groups.
