Cantrell the fit

Cory chose the fit

Cory Cantrell put some miles behind him while choosing a college. “I actually toured every university in Tennessee and I just know UTC was the perfect fit for me.” The Jackson, Tennessee, psychology major considers himself an individual. He doesn’t always follow the crowd. He certainly didn’t follow most of his friends to college, instead choosing to be himself, to take his own path. “UTC is the perfect place to come if you are not wanting to be just another face in the crowd. The opportunities at UTC are endless.”

Freeman living campus

Yancy chose living on campus

Life is 24/7 and where Yancy Freeman spends that time is important to him. After visiting multiple campuses, Freeman, an exercise science major from Ringgold, Georgia, was smitten by the beautiful campus, the friendly people, and the outstanding campus housing UTC had to offer. He has become active on campus with several student organizations and intramural sports. Freeman advises students to scope out the surrounding areas for things to do. Make sure there are plenty of opportunities for extracurricular activities. “You aren’t in class every minute, so you want to go back to a residence hall that is nice. UTC has the best housing around.”

Hodson living campus

Andrew chose living on campus

Andrew chose UTC because it was a great value for the cost of tuition. In his time at UTC, he has joined the ROTC Military Science and Leadership Program, saying, “My most unique experience this year at UTC was going to the ROTC FTX (Field Training Exercise).” He hasn’t decided if he will pursue a career with his biology major or use his ROTC experience as a career military officer. Andrew’s advice to incoming college freshmen is to seek out scholarships. You never know what might be available if you don’t check!

Miele involvement

Austin chose involvement

Austin Miele knew from the beginning of his college search that UTC was where he wanted to be. In fact, the Collierville, Tennessee, native majoring in Philosophy and Religion never even considered another campus. The Scenic City’s natural surroundings coupled with strong academic offerings made the perfect combination for Miele. “I knew I had found a place where I felt welcome and where I could experience the growth I wanted in my life. Stagnancy is dangerous in college, so I wanted a campus that challenged me to get out and get involved.”

Ortiz Investment

Nathaniel chose investment

Nathaniel Ortiz expects to hit a home run with his UTC biology degree. He’s looking at a career in biotechnological and clinical research. He meets goals, like leading the UTC Club Baseball team to the Division II World Series—and bringing back the trophy and a Number 1 national ranking for the team. “I found that Chattanooga was a growing city with a university that was doing the same—whether it was academically, athletically, or aesthetically. UTC was the best option to promote my personal growth by being in an environment where good change was the norm.”

Scannapiego Involvement

Lauren chose involvement

Growing up just a few miles north on I-75 from UTC, Lauren Scannapiego felt pretty comfortable with Chattanooga. “UTC just feels like home,” said the civil engineering major. Scannapiego hopes her education will prepare her for a job designing bridges and roadways, but for the time being, she’s making different kinds of connections. She has joined one of the campus ministries and is working in Admissions.  “Each and every organization makes the effort to reach out and help newcomers get involved on campus. There is something for everyone.”
