Summer Camp FAQs

Can I drop my child off early for camp?

Yes - However, you will need to purchase the Early Drop-Off package for your child to be dropped off between 7:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m.

Can I pick my child up early from camp?

Yes - Please come to the gravel parking lot and call the Campus Recreation Office at (423) 425-4213.  A staff member will bring your child to your car.  Please note that only people on the Camper's authorized pick-up list will be able to pick up the child.

Can my child stay late?

Yes - However, you will need to purchase the After Hours package for your child to be picked up between 4:15 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Are there always lifeguards on duty while campers are swimming?

Yes - A minimum of 4 lifeguards will always be on duty.  

What should my child wear to camp?

T-Shirt, shorts, and tennis shoes.  A rain jacket may be needed if rain is in the forecast.  Please do not send your child in sandals or Crocs as these shoes will not be safe for some activities.

What should my child bring for swimming?

A swimsuit and towel.  They may also bring goggles, ear/nose plugs, or a swim cap.  Please also send your child with a plastic bag to place their wet suit and towel.

What is your swim test policy?

All campers will be swim tested on the first day of camp.  The swim test consists of fully submerging and swimming 25 yards.  The Aquatics Staff are solely responsible for determining who successfully passes the swim test.  Campers who pass will be given a green break-a-way swim necklace.  Campers who do not pass will be given a red break-a-way necklace and a lifejacket.  Campers may attempt the swim test a second time if desired.

What is your camp disciplinary policy?

Step # 1 - A verbal warning.  The staff will explain to the camper how their actions were inappropriate and how to avoid these actions moving forward. 

Step # 2 - Time out.  The camper will be asked to sit out of the current activity.  The staff will explain to the camper how their actions were inappropriate and how to avoid these actions moving forward.  Parent(s)/Guardian will be notified of their child's time out.

Step # 3 - Parental phone call or meeting.  The Camp Director, camper, and parent(s)/guardian(s) will meet to discuss the camper's actions and explore how to proceed. 

Note:  Camp staff is strictly forbidden to use any form of physical or emotional punishment.

What grade level should my child be signed up for?

Children should be placed in the grade level that they will be attending in the coming fall.

Camper Restroom Policy

All campers must be capable of using the restroom without assistance from camp staff.  Camp staff will take campers to the restroom in groups throughout the day.

 What happens if it is raining?

Our summer camp program will continue rain or shine.  Some activities may be changed or modified depending on the weather.  Please send a rain jacket with your child on days that it looks like it may rain.

What medical training does the camp staff have?

All camp staff is American Red Cross certified in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, Blood Borne Pathogens, Anaphylaxis and Epinephrine Administration, and Asthma Inhaler Training.

What if my child requires medication(s)?

Please note any medications on your child's camp registration.  Our staff will assist your child in taking their medication as needed.  All camp staff is American Red Cross certified in Anaphylaxis and Epinephrine Administration and Asthma Inhaler Training. 

What if my child has an allergy?

Please note any allergies on your child's camp registration.  Our camp does not allow any staff or campers to bring peanuts to camp, including peanut butter.

What food/drink should I send with my child?

Please send your child with a lunch, two snacks, and a water bottle/juice boxes.  Lunch and snack items should be sent in a lunch box.  Campers will not have access to a refrigerator or microwave.

Can I send money with my child?

No - Campers will not be able to spend money at camp.  They will not have access to any stores or vending machines.  If a camp field trip allows the opportunity for campers to buy items or snacks, parents/guardians will be notified prior to the field trip. 

Does my child have to participate in every activity?

No - However, our staff will gently encourage your child to try new activities that they might not have experienced before.  We encourage you to share with your child the types of activities they will experience at camp before the camp session starts.  

What if I forgot my child's lunch or swimming supplies?

Please bring any forgotten items to the Campus Recreation Admin Suite.  Our staff will ensure that it reaches your child.

Do you offer financial assistance?

Yes - Please visit our Scholarships page.

Can my child bring their cell phone?

No - To fully enjoy and engage in the camp experience, we ask that all technology remains at home.

Camp Toys and Fidgets

Can I have lunch with my child?

No - Campers do not always eat in the same place each day of the week.  Our goal is that campers are fully immersed in the camp experience each day.
