The Office for Undergraduate Research and Creative Endeavor (URaCE) at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga is committed to broadening undergraduate research experiences for all students regardless of background, discipline, or year of study. Their programs and initiatives aim to foster a robust research culture that involves the entire UTC community, while also contributing to the local environments of Chattanooga, and creating dialogues with the wider global community.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine (SOM) specializes in clinical and research undergraduate summer programs that provide an enhanced scientific and professional preparation for students aspiring toward a career in medicine or biomedical sciences. The listed programs provide discipline-specific training and opportunities for smaller-scale connections within the overall community.
UAB Preparation for Graduate and Medical Education (PARAdiGM)
An NIH/NHLBI R25 funded 8-week program to introduce outstanding undergraduates from diverse and underrepresented minority backgrounds to the exciting career options of being both a scientific investigator and a practicing physician. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.
UAB Summer in Biomedical Sciences (SIBS) Undergraduate Research Program
An 8-week program where undergraduate students are instructed in the techniques of modern biology while becoming integrated members of a vibrant clinical and scientific community. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.
UAB Summer Program in Neurobiology (SPIN)
An 8-week program providing students with excellent scientific aptitude the opportunity to experience independent research in the neurosciences under the guidance of a UAB faculty member. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.
UAB Kidney Undergraduate Research Program (KURE)
An NIH/NIDDK R25, the KURE (Kidney Undergraduate Research Experience) program gives you the opportunity to learn about advances in kidney research and be mentored as you work on your own research project in a lab within UAB's kidney community of investigators. This 8-week program allows you the unique opportunity to gain experience in the field of biomedical research.
UAB HudsonAlpha Summer Undergraduate Research Experience in Genomic Medicine (SURE-GM): Alabama Residents Only
SURE-GM (Summer Undergraduate Research Experience in Genomic Medicine) is UAB's NIH/NHGRI R25 funded summer program for outstanding undergraduates from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the state of Alabama who want to explore the potential of a future career as scientific investigators in the field of genomics. This 2-year summer program is a partnership with HudsonAlpha and UAB, where students will spend their first summer at HudsonAlpha and then the second year conducting research at UAB.
UAB Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP), a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Funded Program
The Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) is supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. It is a free 6-week summer enrichment residential programs for first and second year college students, developed from a partnership between the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine, School of Dentistry, School of Optometry, and School of Health Professions, home to the Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy programs.
UAB Surgery Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE)
The Surgery Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) offered by the Department of Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) provides promising undergraduate students who are interested in a medical career with research experience and knowledge that 1) increases their competitiveness for admission to medical school and 2) encourages them to consider careers in academic medicine, particularly the field of surgery. The program builds on a solid foundation of undergraduate research that already exists at UAB.
UAB Short Term Research Experience for Under-Represented Persons (STEP-UP)
STEP-UP program is a biomedical research experience for undergraduate students. This program is coordinated at UAB and two other coordinating centers. Students are linked with experienced research mentors at the institution they choose for the summer experience, which may be their home institution or one near their hometown. It is open to students across the country who are interested in exploring research careers.

The Vanderbilt Program for LGBTQ Health
The Vanderbilt Program for LGBTQ Health is hosting a limited number of students for a 10-week, full-time internship from late May to early August 2020. Through this internship program, we hope to foster the personal and professional development of future leaders in LGBTQ health and research.
For competitive consideration, applicants must:
- Be an undergraduate student (rising junior or senior) or a graduate student (especially medical or nursing school student)
- Have a committed interested in LGBTQ health and research.
- Demonstrated this interested through previous work, research, volunteer, or other experience.

PubMed is a free resource supporting the search and retrieval of biomedical and life sciences literature with the aim of improving health–both globally and personally.
The PubMed database contains more than 30 million citations and abstracts of biomedical literature. It does not include full-text journal articles; however, links to the full text are often present when available from other sources, such as the publisher's website or PubMed Central (PMC).
Available to the public online since 1996, PubMed was developed and is maintained by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), located at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
A pioneer of open access publishing, BMC has an evolving portfolio of high quality peer-reviewed
journals including broad interest titles such as BMC Biology and BMC Medicine, specialist journals such as Malaria Journal and Microbiome, and the BMC Series.
Founded in 1969, The Hastings Center was important in establishing the field of bioethics. It is a
nonpartisan, nonprofit organization of research scholars from multiple disciplines, including philosophy, law, political science, and education. The Hastings Center and its scholars, produce books, articles, and other publications on ethical questions in medicine, science, and technology that help inform policy, practice, and public understanding.
Mayo Clinic a nonprofit academic medical center, focused on integrated patient care, education, and research. It is home to the top-ten ranked Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine, in addition to, many of the highest regarded residency education programs in the United States. It spends over $660 million a year on research and has more than 3,000 full-time research personnel. The clinic provides a searchable Website that contains health news and a medical references library from a team of physicians, scientists, writers, and educators at the Mayo Clinic.

Search for clinical trials that are currently enrolling patients.
This site is a collection of reliable links to information about clinical trials, including: news, how clinical trials work, financial concerns, dictionaries, directories, organizations, laws and policies, statistics, and clinical trials for children.
Search for current clinical trials by type of cancer, stage of cancer, type of trial, and location. This site also reports on the results of completed clinical trials.

Martindale's Health Science Guide
A "multimedia specialized information resource" comprised of over 56,000 teaching files,126,300 medical cases, 1,068 multimedia textbooks and 1,475 multimedia tutorials, a "virtual" medical center and some recreational information, too.
The online version of the Merck Manual Home Health Handbook, a useful and searchable medical handbook, contains photographs, audio and video materials not found in the print version and is updated periodically with new information.
