- When do clinical experiences in the DPT program start and how long do they last?
The first clinical rotation is seven weeks long in an outpatient orthopedic setting in the summer. The second and third rotations are six and eight weeks long in the summer of the second year. These placements are in an acute care hospital and a neuro rehabilitation clinic or hospital setting. The fourth and final clinical rotation is fifteen weeks in the spring semester of the third year. Students can choose from a variety of settings.
- Where are the clinical affiliation/internship sites located?
Our program has numerous contracts with sites in the Chattanooga area as well as all over the United States. In some instances, the Director of Clinical Education can also work with students to secure contracts in new areas where UTC does not currently have placements/ contracts.
- How are clinical sites assigned for DPT students?
Students are provided a list of available sites for each of the experiences, and they submit their preferences. All students will be assigned to a site outside our area for at least one of the experiences at the end of the second year.
