Want to Participate in the Student Managed Investment Learning Experience?
Applications are accepted Sept. 15 - Oct. 15, 2020
SMILE Fund allows students to manage real investments:
Applications for the SMILE Fund (Student Managed Investment Learning Experience Fund) will be open Sept. 15 - Oct. 15, 2020. The SMILE Fund is an equity fund managed entirely by students for UTC's UC Foundation. This is an invaluable learning opportunity that many universities do not offer. Only a select number of undergraduate studentswill be chosen each year to gain valuable exposure to the field of portfolio management. The SMILE Fund accepts applications from ALL majors across campus.
For more specific information about the SMILE Fund, please contact the SMILE Fund Faculty Advisor, Dr. Hunter Holzhauer, at [email protected].
About the Application Process:
Approximately 52 students (majority juniors, then sophomores, and even interested freshmen) will be selected to participate in the SMILE Fund as either officers, lead sector analysts, or junior anaylists. All selected students must commit to serve as a manager for three consecutive semesters (Spring 2021, Fall 2021, and Spring 2022 semesters).
If you can only commit to two semesters because you will graduate in December 2021, please complete the application and email Dr. Holzhauer immediately about your graduation status. There is a chance that you could begin shadowing as a junior analyst immediately pending the quality of your application and if there is a position available.
To apply, follow the steps below:
- Step 1: Fill Out & Submit Your Application
Students should complete and submit the application below. Click to open the application and then choose to open the file using Adobe Acrobat. Fill out the application and save it to your computer. You will need to send in the application, your resume (if you have one; it is OK if you do not), and a copy of your My Mocs Degree.
You may then submit the three parts electronically to Dr. Hunter Holzhauer or print it out and hand deliver it to Sheri Kappel, the Administrative Assistant for the Finance & Economics Department, in Fletcher Hall, Room 434.
- Step 2: Time Availability Poll
Applicants will receive a follow-up email requesting completion of a time availability poll for the Spring 2021 semester.
